Enhancing Chu Lai international port’s operational capacity

The Ky Ha channel dredging project was assigned to THILOGI by the Ministry of Construction and the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee, in coordination with relevant units, starting from January 17, 2025. Upon completion, the upgraded Ky Ha maritime channel meets technical standards with a depth of -9.3 meters (nautical chart), a bottom width of 110 meters, and a total length of 11 kilometers (from buoy No. 0 to the berth), capable of accommodating vessels up to 30,000 DWT. The dredging process complied with environmental protection regulations, preserving the marine ecosystem and the livelihoods of local fishermen. The upgraded channel resolves the issue of ships being dependent on tides, allowing larger vessels to enter and exit the port more flexibly, efficiently, especially during peak hours and nighttime. After completion, THILOGI officially handed over the facility to the Vietnam Maritime Administration for management and operation, without requesting cost reimbursement.

Mr. Phan Van Ky, Director of Chu Lai International Port, emphasized that the investment in upgrading the Ky Ha channel is a long-term strategic initiative to overcome infrastructure bottlenecks and gradually develop Chu Lai International Port into a Class I national port. It is also intended to become an international logistics hub and a key import-export gateway for Central, Central Highlands, Southern Laos, Northern Cambodia, and Northeastern Thailand
