OVERVIEW OF WAREHOUSE TYPES IN LOGISTICS

1/ Shared Warehouse (Public Warehouse)

A multi-client facility where multiple businesses share storage space, material handling equipment, and labor resources. Large companies invest in standardized warehouses and lease out spaces to various clients. Each client’s cargo is stored in clearly separated, designated areas to ensure no mixing of goods.

2/ Private Warehouse (Self-Managed Warehouse)

An independent warehouse space rented or owned by a company, where the business has full control over inventory management, storage layout, handling operations, and inbound/outbound processes. All activities are organized and managed independently by the tenant.

3/ E-commerce Fulfillment Center

A warehouse specifically designed to serve e-commerce logistics. In addition to inventory storage, these facilities handle order picking, labeling, packing, order processing, and last-mile distribution to customers.

4/ Bonded Warehouse

A customs-supervised storage facility where imported goods are stored without paying duties and taxes until they are either exported or cleared for domestic distribution. Bonded warehouses also handle cargo preservation, repackaging, and sorting of imported/exported goods.

5/ Container Freight Station (CFS)

A logistics facility where Less than Container Load (LCL) cargo is consolidated into full containers for export or deconsolidated from full containers into individual shipments for different consignees upon import. Commonly used in seaport and inland container depot (ICD) operations.

6/ Bonded Manufacturing Warehouse

A type of bonded warehouse used for storing imported raw materials and components that have cleared customs procedures but for which import duties have not yet been paid, specifically intended for the manufacturing of export goods by the warehouse operator.

7/ Transit Warehouse (Transshipment Warehouse)

A temporary storage facility for holding cargo in transit between different legs of a supply chain or between buyers and sellers. The storage duration is flexible, ranging from a few days to several weeks or more, depending on contractual terms and logistics arrangements.
